The situation in Chad was put on the mat by the current President of the African Union Felix Tshisekedi during the Paris summit on tuesday. The situation in Chad after the death of President Idriss Deby has led African Union to a position. This is how the Peace and Security Council of the African Union adopted on last Friday a position with the military junta in power. In Paris this Tuesday, Felix Tshisekedi declared that « a strong recovery » was necessary after the death of Idriss Deby. Because, he said, « we must not forget that Chad is threatened by hordes of rebels and by terrorists ».

« Haven’t we seen a coup d’etat that does not speak its name ? It is one of the questions asked by a journalist about the seizure of power by the military junta. To this question Félix Tshisekedi answered in the negative before giving some details on the situation in Chad. “In such a messy situation, it is better to have a strong takeover. That’s what happened. Now, that doesn’t mean that rights and freedoms have to be written off. The current power, the CMT, must absolutely ensure order, but also continue to uphold rights and freedoms.  »

The situation in Chad and the next elections

At this summit, the current President of the African Union also pronounced on the possibility of a candidacy in the next elections of the members of the Millitary Council of Transition.

“First of all, they are soldiers, the power cannot go to the army. And in addition, they took power in the way we know, so in my opinion, they should reserve for the following things : return to the army and maintain the stability of the country and I believe that is what will be done besides since it is our position at the African Union ”, he indicated.
